 1988 Honda diff problems
I have a 1988 honda 300 that is shaft driven. My pinion bearings have packed it in and need to be replaced. I cannot figure out how to get the diff seperated I have about a 1/2" gap right now but it doesnt seem to want to move out any more. What should I do to get the diff apart? Keep beating and prying at it? I am just worried about breaking the aluminum case.
Thanks in advance

I cannot answer your questions, but do not beat and pry it to death. Wait until member toodeep sees your thread, he is a Honda Tech and has an old 300 (actually 2 I believe), so I am sure he can steer you right. I too had a 300, but didn't have it very long before losing it in a divorce.

 Re: 1988 Honda diff problems
Thanks I found a blown up pic of the diff and it seems as though I should be able to get the left side of the diff to slide down the axle shaft and come off

Read through this and it should help get it done. If you have any problems just post and we'll try to help the best we can. http://www.atfreeforum.com/httpwwwhonda ... wwhondafouSome have used a nut to make the tool and just weld it to a piece of pipe, towards the bottom of that thread is removing the bearing.

Awsome man that is so damn helpful. Now if the previous owner didnt weld the ends on the axle this would go alot quicker. looks like the whole rearend needs all new bearings

 Re: 1988 Honda diff problems
Hi There I have the same issue. Diff axle bearing deap, so pulled diff out. OOps it is full of mud!!!! so need to strip it and replace bearings. I just cant see what is stopping the pinion from coming out.
The link that Toodeep listed doesnt seem to work now, can someone suggest another link to the page for me? Whats the pinion tool that is mentioned?

Welcome to RedQuads, dasher. Try the link again. http://www.atfreeforum.com/httpwwwhonda ... wwhondafouIf you attempted to copy and paste the link, just click on it. Our forum software shortens links to save space. BTW, it worked for me. If it still doesn't work, perhaps your Internet settings need loosened up (your browser is blocking it). I use Mozilla Firefox, not Internet Explorer.
