2004 honda rancher 400 AT wont downshift in auto
I have been searching and see this is a common problem but cant seem to find a straight answer on a fix...the manual end of the electric shift works fine but in auto it seems to go from first to fourth then wont come back down...also seems to be running out of power going up hills, deep mud, ect. even in manual. i just bought it used last year with 600 km on it and it has always had this problem. did diagnostic test thing and gave me code 11. any help would be great, from what ive found it sounds like it could be clutch slipping or a sensor gone .
thanks

Re: 2004 honda rancher 400 AT wont downshift in auto
That is for system voltage. Problem could have been a low battery (at anytime to store the code), ECM or with the charging system (regulator).

Re: 2004 honda rancher 400 AT wont downshift in auto
ok, well it didnt work it will go for a while and revs up then once its hot it just wont go any more 5 km an hour is as fast as i could get. then if you stop can hear an electric sound then it will go a little then rev up again, manual works fine just auto.it sounds like a clutch

Re: 2004 honda rancher 400 AT wont downshift in auto
If it's working fine in the ES mode then it shouldn't be the clutch. I would start with cleaning the connectors, one might have some moisture in it causing a problem. The shift control motor will also do this if the internal are dirty. Code 11 is just the fail safe code, meaning something is wrong in the system at one point in time. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1984

Re: 2004 honda rancher 400 AT wont downshift in auto
As far as the connectors it could be any of them including the battery cables. You do have to clear the codes to get rid of them and if the problem arises again then it will trip the code again.

Re: 2004 honda rancher 400 AT wont downshift in auto
As long as the code is just stored (not flashing) the machine should operate normally. The link in the previous post has the erasing procedure.

Re: 2004 honda rancher 400 AT wont downshift in auto
ok , well i cleaned all my connections , none looked corroded put it back together and it still has the problem seems like once the oil warms up the automatic end of the transmission stops working. Manual works fine just lacks power when climbing hills, ect.
