Post The Return to Two Guns Arizona.
On 06/05/2010 I went on a ATV adventure covering 169 miles
from Stoneman Lake through the Coconino Nat'L Forest.
We happened upon a place that's called Two Guns and thought
it worthy of another trip this past weekend to spend more
time among the ruins and a few other places along the way
this time covering 208 miles in just 13½ hours.

I hope that you enjoy the pictures and take time to click
on the following link for more on this place in history !

http://www.hkhinc.com/arizona/twoguns/richardson.htm

Because of the distance we had to cover plus the dust
we only had five riders for this adventure.

Very cool. I enjoy seeing photos of the historical sites we can visit, and it's even better when I can learn about that history.

I was looking at the photo of the debris in the wooden box and was thinking "why did he take this photo?" and then I saw the rattler. lol

Posts like this one interest me a lot, I am a hobby prospector and I throw one of my 2 metal detectors among other things on my bike as I like to have a dig around the place, looking for things left behind but the history of an item is what really get's me going on the hunt for it, who lost it or left it, what is it exactly, who made it, who owned it???
At school I used to hate history as a subject, now I just can't get enough of it as once you have found an item then if you're lucky enough to find some info relating to the item then you have started to assmeble one of the most interesting and fun jigsaw puzzles ever....
Tours like Desert Hawks that are a tour thrrough History are something we just don't have here, very dissapointing indeed!
Is anyone else at Redquads into the same sort of thing as me?? This is one of the main reasons I got into quadbikes, My Rancher makes exploring SO much more practical and enjoyable.

Best Regards - MM :D

I always enjoyed studying local history in school.

I can't remember if I posted this or not: This isn't a history "tour" per se, and isn't even a quad trip. But we went exploring with our 4x4's and checked out a bunch of abandoned mines in British Columbia.
Trip report with photos

Monkey Man, since you're an amateur radio operator, you might interested to know that I had my Kenwood TS-440SAT HF radio with me, and was able to check in with net control on 80m; he was located in Victoria, BC, and we were north of Greenwood, BC (look that up on Google Maps) up the side of a mountain. I was using a Ham Stick antenna for 80m.

We did a similar ATV trip to a different area last summer, but I lost my camera with all the photos. :sob: Might re-visit some of the area this summer.

I did see that posting some time ago and it was excellent, yet another trip I would have been great to go on, the thing about history is it's everywhere, you just have to go looking for it and places like mining, logging and industrial sites are overflowing with stuff to explore.

Cool stuff on checking in with the net with the kenwood, I had to write one of that model off recently, salt water and electronics just don't mix. I am building up a ruggedised FT817 all band, all mode qrp rig with whip antenna and counterpoise "drag" wire for the quad or portable use but that is a ways off completion yet, I'll send you some pics if interested....

Bummer on the camera loss, bad enough to lose it but the loss of the pics really bites too. I check out the pics you guys post on here and at Quads.ca, your trips are always interesting.

Best Regards - MM :D
